Fruit beverages
Evaluate candidate red/yellow directions such as beetroot red, carmine, gardenia yellow and beta-carotene only after food-category and destination review. Focus on acidity, heat treatment, clear packaging and vitamin C.
Tea beverages
Tea polyphenols, metals and oxidation can darken a drink or contribute sediment. Include tea-base batch, water source and storage conditions in the comparison.
Dairy beverages
Protein, fat, emulsification and heat can change hue, haze or settling. A color that disperses in water still requires testing in the actual dairy base.
Flavored water and clear drinks
Clear appearance makes small specks, haze or precipitation visible even at low addition. Include controlled centrifugation where useful, temperature cycling and extended standing observations; these are screening tools rather than substitutes for shelf testing.
Use a matrix
Compare candidates with a small set of key process controls instead of choosing from one attractive sample. Red, yellow, orange and blue/green systems have different constraints. Confirm the applicable food category and use scope first; a single red specification is unlikely to fit every beverage.
