Possible entry routes
Iron, copper and other ions may enter through water, equipment contact, mineral salts, tea, juice concentrate, spices or packaging. Tea drinks, fruit drinks, mineral-containing foods, sauces and pale products may make the resulting change more visible.
Start with the same formula and different water
Prepare comparable deionized-water and production-water samples. If needed, then compare raw-material batches, equipment contact duration or an appropriate chelation approach. Keep these as separate trials so the result remains interpretable.
Respond to the evidence
Water treatment, raw-material selection, equipment cleaning, buffering, antioxidant strategy or color selection may be relevant, subject to product and sensory requirements. Appearance alone cannot prove a metal mechanism. Changing water also cannot resolve metals introduced mainly through ingredients or equipment. Keep actual specification and destination-market review attached to any formula change.
